Women?s Golf Looks For Another Top Five Finish at ASU

EUGENE, Ore. ? The Oregon women’s golf team will be looking for its third straight top five finish when it competes in the Ping/ASU Invitational Friday through Monday in Tempe, Ariz. Teams will play 18 holes each day on the 6,230-yard, par-72 Karsten Golf Course.
The Ducks are on a roll of late, having won the March 22-23 Colby Invitational in Rancho Canada, Calif., and finished second at the March 8-9 Oregon Duck Invitational at Eugene Country Club. In fact, the Ducks have finished in the top five of four of six events this season. But the Ping/ASU will mark a step up in competition with six of the nation’s top 12 teams among the field and nine top 25 teams overall.
Those nine teams include No. 2 UCLA, No. 5 California, No. 6 New Mexico, No. 9 USC, No. 10 Arizona, No. 12 Washington, No. 16 Tulsa, No. 17 Texas and No. 24 Stanford. The remainder of the field includes Arizona State, New Mexico State, Northern Arizona, Oregon, Oregon State, Pepperdine, San Jose State and Texas Christian.
Oregon will send sophomores Erin Andrews, Therese Wenslow and Michelle Timpani, who won the Colby Invitational individual title in a six-way, six-hole playoff, juniors Johnna Nealy (Grants Pass, Ore.) and Jess Carlyon and freshman Kim McCready to the event.
The Ducks finished 15th with a 934 score at last year’s ASU/Ping tournament. Oregon has not finished in the top 10 at Tempe since taking fifth in 1998.
