Ducks Fall to No. 3 USC at Last Home Match of the Season
EUGENE, Ore. ? The Oregon men’s tennis team battled hard but was unable to overtake the No. 3-ranked USC Trojans, losing, 5-2. The loss drops Oregon to 9-9 overall and 1-5 in Pac-10 play.
Junior Sven Swinnen and sophomore Arron Spencer picked up Oregon’s only doubles win, defeating Drew Hoskins and Daniel Langre, 8-5. Markus Schiller and Manuel Kost put up a good fight, but were defeated by the Trojans’ Johan Berg and Parker Collins, 8-6.
USC dominated singles play, winning four of six matches. The No. 35-ranked Swinnen captured one of two victories for the Ducks with a 6-4, 7-5, win over No.23 Adriano Biasella of USC. The win marked Swinnen’s 22nd of the year and gives him a 5-1 record in conference play. Oregon’s only other point came from No. 88 Kost, who defeated No. 73 Berg, 6-3, 6-2.
In the final home match of his career, senior Chris King played tough but was defeated in both doubles and singles. King and Thomas Bieri lost in doubles to USC’s Biasella and Ruben Torres, 8-4. In singles, King competed against No. 94 Drew Hoskins, losing in two sets, 6-0, 6-2.
The Ducks wrap up the regular season when they take on No. 18 Washington in Seattle, Saturday, April 17, at 1:30 pm.
