Panova Cruises Into Pac-10 Quarterfinals

OJAI, Calif. ? Junior Daria Panova is almost halfway to her quest for a fourth Pacific-10 Conference title. The No. 10-ranked native of Moscow, Russia, won both matches to advance to the quarterfinals on Friday.
Panova got off to a slow start, losing the first set in her first round matchup against ASU’s Joslynn Burkett, but rebounded to pull of 4-6, 6-2, 6-2 victory. In the second round, Panova made easy work of Stanford’s No. 39 Theresa Logar, 6-2, 6-2.
The wins marked the 30th and 31st, respectively for Panova on the season ? two shy of breaking her own single-season school record. She also holds a 16-4 record in tournament matches this season.
Freshman Dominika Dieskova won her first round match, defeating Diane Matias of USC, 6-4, 6-2. She then came up short in the second round, losing to Stanford’s No. 12 Alice Barnes, 5-7, 6-1, 6-1.
Senior Courtney Nagle was defeated in the first round, losing to No. 21 Dea Sumantri of Washington, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4.
