Assistant Softball Coach Mike White Resigns

EUGENE ? University of Oregon assistant softball coach Mike White resigned as the Ducks’ pitching coach after two seasons, head coach Kathy Arendsen announced Thursday. White said he wants to spend more time with his family, as well as pursue other interests, including running his investment company.
"At this point I have decided that I would like to spend more time with my family," White said. "I have three young daughters that are involved in sports and other activities that I want to be a part of. Our family will stay in Eugene because we are very happy here. If it is possible, I would still like to stay connected with the Oregon program in some capacity."
The Ducks made their second consecutive trip to the postseason, falling one game short of the Women’s College World Series in 2003 and 2004. During his two seasons, White coached third-team All-American Andrea Vidlund (P/UT), first-team All Pac-10 pitcher Ani Nyhus and Eugene native Amy Harris who set the single-season strikeout record (180) in 2003, which was surpassed by Nyhus (202) this season.
"Having Mike as a part of the rebuilding process was invaluable to our program," Arendsen said. "His experience as a premier player has helped develop continued success over the past two seasons and our players respect him. We hope to continue to have him involved in our program as we move forward."
Added White: "This has been a great opportunity for me. To be a part of an Oregon program that has steadily become one of the nation’s top programs is an honor. There is a solid foundation and I have confidence in our pitching staff and our team that they will continue to build on what success we have started."
