Oregon Men?s Basketball Gets Love

EUGENE, Ore. ? The University of Oregon men’s basketball team has signed Kenny Love of South Bend, Ind., to a National Letter of Intent, head coach Ernie Kent announced Tuesday.
Love, a 6-2 point guard, played his freshman season at Casper College, a two-year school in Casper, Wyo., and led the T-Birds to an 18-12 record and the Wyoming Conference championship. He averaged 14 points, four rebounds and three assists per game as a freshman, leading Casper in all three categories, and was named to the all-Region IX team. Love also served as team captain.
"Kenny gives us a second pure point guard in our program," said Kent. "He possesses great floor awareness and good instincts. And our fans are going to like Kenny right away. He’s a tremendous person to bring to Oregon in terms of the type of character we look for in our program. Here’s a guy who turned down starting spots at other places in order to come here because he wanted to be part of our program."
Prior to enrolling at Casper, Love averaged 16.7 points, eight rebounds and four steals per game his senior season for South Bend’s John Adams High School. He finished his career ranked fourth all-time in scoring at Adams with 1,042 points. Love was named Associated Press all-state honorable mention and was a South Bend Tribune all-star as a senior. He was also a three-year starter and a two-time all-Northern Indiana Conference selection.
Love will be a sophomore this fall who will have three seasons of eligibility remaining. He is the first Casper College player to sign with a Division I program since Alex Hernandez (Gonzaga) in 2000.
He joins three high schoolers -- Maarty Leunen of Redmond, Ore., Chamberlain Oguchi of Richmond, Texas, and Bryce Taylor of North Hollywood, Calif. -- in this season’s recruiting class.
