Nyhus Named To 2004 Softball Canadian National Team

Ottawa, ON ? University of Oregon junior Ani Nyhus (White Rock, B.C.) has been selected as one of 15 players to represent Canda’s softball team in the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, Greece this summer as announced by Softball Canada today. In December, Softball Canada selected eight players to the Olympic Squad with an additional player named in April, leaving only six spots left to fill with Nyhus earning one of those six spots.
"I’m really excited to represent my country in an event of this caliber," Nyhus said. "This is a great opportunity for me and the ultimate goal is to win a gold medal in the Olympics."
Nyhus, a two-time Pac-10 pitcher of the week this season, became the fifth pitcher in Oregon history to record 20 wins in a season after the Ducks defeated Washington, 10-2, May 1. Nyhus leads the team with 170 strikeouts and is 10 shy of tying the single-season strikeout record set by Amy Harris last season.
In her first season with the Ducks, the 2003 Junior College Player of the Year has four wins over top-5 teams, including a 1-0 victory over No. 1 Arizona. She has accounted for all nine conference wins for the Ducks and is already eighth all-time at Oregon with eight shutout victories.
Within the span of two weeks (March 27-April 4) Nyhus threw two one-hitters and one no-hitter while facing the minimum number of batters in two separate games. Her no-hitter vs. Utah State is the 14th no-hitter in Oregon history. Five of her conference wins have been by shutout and she has thrown two one-hitters in Pac-10 action.
