Amy Hayes Joins Ducks? Softball Staff As Pitching Coach

EUGENE, Ore. ? Amy Hayes, who has accumulated nine years of collegiate coaching experience in the Atlantic-10, America East and Missouri Valley conferences will join the University of Oregon softball staff as the Ducks’ pitching coach, head coach Kathy Arendsen announced Thursday.
Hayes will begin her tenure with the Ducks July 1, replacing former assistant coach Mike White as Oregon’s primary pitching coach and will also recruit, coordinate camps, oversee facilities, coordinate strength and conditioning workouts and oversee areas of travel.
"Amy Hayes is an outstanding addition to our coaching staff," Arendsen said. "She brings to us a wealth of coaching experience, a strong pitching background and she is a proven recruiter. We believe her personality, coaching skills and commitment to success will fit in well at Oregon. We are extremely happy that Amy has chosen to be a Duck."
For the past four seasons, Hayes has served as the head coach at Boston University where she guided the program to back-to-back NCAA Regional appearances in 2002 and 2003. Under the direction of Hayes, the Terriers won back-to-back America East Tournament Championships and were regular season champions in 2001, 2002 and 2003.
In 2002, Boston University players earned Player, Pitcher and Rookie of the Year awards, marking the first time in the history of the America East Conference that one team has won all three awards in a single season. In all, Hayes has coached four All-Region All-Americans, 10 All-America East Tournament players, 21 All-America East Conference players, two players of the year, two pitchers of the year and two rookies of the year.
"For me to have the opportunity to coach at the University of Oregon is a dream come true," Hayes said. "To coach in the Pac-10 is nothing short of amazing. To be able to work with Coach Arendsen and her staff is also a great honor. She has brought a lot of success to the program and I want to help build on that success."
Prior to her position at Boston University, Hayes served as the first assistant at Virginia Tech from 1997-2000. She spent the previous year as the first assistant at Bradley University in Peoria, Ill., and was the first assistant at the University of Evansville in Indiana from 1992-1993.
During the summer of 2003, Hayes was the pitching coach for the Spanish National Team, preparing national team pitchers for several international competitions and the 2003 World Cup Tournament held in Italy.
Hayes attended the University of Evansville where she earned a degree in sociology in 1992. As a player on the Evansville softball team from 1988-1992, Hayes boasted a 0.67 conference ERA and a 1.48 overall ERA.
