Volleyball Sends Three to Italy to Represent U.S. at Sibillini Tourney

EUGENE, Ore. ? Three University of Oregon volleyball players have been invited to participate at the under-20 Annual Sibillini Tournament Tues.- Sun., June 29-July 3 in Comunanza, Italy. The tournament boasts under-20 club teams from Czechoslovakia, Slovakia, Serbia, Slovenia and Italy.
Senior outside hitter Lauren Westendorf, sophomore setter Heather Madison and sophomore middle blocker Kristen Bitter will represent the Ducks.
Westendorf returns as one of Oregon’s top players. She posted 200 kills and finished second on the team in digs per game (1.76) last season. Madison returns as the Ducks' leading setter with 247 assists. Bitter led the team with 1.10 blocks per game in 2003 and earned Most Improved Player honors.
For the fifth consecutive year, Bring It Promotions (BIP) will enter two American teams into the tournament. VolleyHut was the last U.S. team to win in 2000.

The Ducks start the season at McArthur Court, Sept. 1, when they play host to Southern Oregon. Oregon’s non-conference schedule features four 2003 NCAA Tournament participants. Of those four, Colorado, Northridge and St. Mary’s will come to Eugene for the Oregon Classic Tournament, Sept. 3-4.
