Swinnen Awarded All-America Honors

SKILLMAN, N.J. ? Junior Sven Swinnen received All-America accolades by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association after posting a 22-9 singles record and a ranking of No. 25. Swinnen becomes Oregon’s second All-American after Guillermo Carter earned honors in 2000.
Swinnen defeated six ranked players, including two top 25 players from No. 3 UCLA and No. 4 USC to close out the regular season. Swinnen began the season unranked but reached a ranking of No. 16, the highest ranking in Oregon men’s tennis history. Swinnen also finished the season ranked No. 39 in doubles with sophomore Arron Spencer.
"I am delighted for Sven," Oregon head coach Chris Russell said. "He had arguably the best season in Oregon men’s tennis history. His accomplishments will give the program even more credibility and will be used as an example to returning and incoming players as to what we are looking for in an Oregon player."
Junior Manuel Kost finished out the season with a singles ranking of No. 66. Kost and Swinnen marked the first time that two Oregon players reached the NCAA Individual Championships.
The Ducks as a team ended the 2003-04 campaign ranked No. 52. Next season, they will return 89 of its 96 singles wins.
