Cheerleaders Earn National Championship

The University of Oregon cheerleading squad captured first place at the recent United Spirit Association (USA) Collegiate National Championships held in Las Vegas, Nev. Their routine garnered the prestigous honor in the Large Co-Ed, 4-Year College division.
"We worked on the routine for several weeks and it's great to see the kids' hard work payoff," said coach Laraine Raish. "We finished seventh last year and were determined to better that this year."
Also receiving honors was The Duck, who captured second place in the mascot competition. Individually, Justin Ruffier and Brittany Willis finished in third place and Robbie Rivas and Libby Smith finished ninth in the College partner Stunt Division.
The sqaud will be honored at halftime of Saturday's men's basketball game against Washington State, which tips off on ABC at 3:00 pm.
