Nyhus Selected in NPF Draft

DENVER, Colo. ? The Akron (Ohio) Racers selected University of Oregon pitcher Ani Nyhus as the 15th overall pick in the National Pro Fastpitch (NPF) Senior Draft as announced by the NPF today.
Nyhus, who finished her junior season with a 25-13 overall record and a 1.54 ERA, earned first-team all-pac-10 honors and third-team Easton All-America honors in 2004. On Mar. 27, 2004 vs. Utah State, Nyhus threw the program's 14th no-hitter and recorded a school-record 16 strikeouts in the win. Nyhus also owns the Oregon single season strikeout record (202) and finished the season with 11 shutouts.
The league will head into the 2005 season with six teams consisting of the Akron Racers, Arizona Heat, Chicago Bandits, New England Riptide, NY/NJ Juggernaut, and Texas Thunder. The California Sunbirds will remain a part of the league but is suspending play for 2005 while working this year to restructure with plans to field a team again in 2006 along with additional teams in other potential markets.
Due to NCAA regulations, an active college senior-athlete may not sign with her respective franchise until their 2005 college season is finished. Senior selection rights expire July 15, 2005. Oregon seniors Ashley Richards and Erin Goodell are expected to consider free agent opportunities upon conclusion of their collegiate career.
