Women's Tennis Signs Polish Standout

Anna Powaska from Gdynia, Poland and Sopot Academy, signed a letter of intent Saturday to play with the 2005 University of Oregon women’s tennis team, head coach Nils Schyllander announced. Powaska will become immediately eligible to participate as a freshman during the spring term. As one of the top junior players in Poland, Powaska has reached a top WTA ranking of 913 for singles and 825 for doubles, while graduating from the same school as fellow teammate and two-time All-American, Daria Panova.
Powaska saw action in today's match against BYU, losing in straight sets at the No. 3 position.
"We are extremely excited to add Anna to our team," Oregon head coach Nils Schyllander said. "She brings a lot of international experience and high-level of tennis to this team. We expect her to make an immediate impact and will help in bringing Oregon tennis to the next level."
The Ducks return to Pac-10 play on Tuesday, when they travel to Seattle for a noon match against the No. 14 Huskies.
