Fuqua Breaks Shot Put Record

MISSOULA, Mont. ? University of Oregon senior Bree Fuqua enjoyed a successful spring break trip home with a pair of personal bests in the Montana Open, Sat., March 26 at the University of Montana.
The Polson, Mont., native won the shot put with a one-foot PR (53-9), and broke the school record formerly held by Quenna Beasley (53-1 1/2). She also claimed another one-foot PR in her discus win (165-4), and was less than 1 1/2 feet shy of the joining the UO all-time list (10th is 166-9).
The second-year Duck was an NCAA qualifier for the Ducks in 2004 outdoors in the shot put (24th, 49-5). She qualified for the collegiate finale with a personal best two weeks before in the West Regional (fourth, 52-8 3/4) with a mark that ranked her second-best all-time for UO behind Beasley.
She also scored for the Ducks last May in the Pac-10 Championships in the shot put (fourth, 52-5 1/2) and discus (fifth, 162-2) ? with both marks her second-longest heaves of the season.
Indoors for UO in ’04, she broke the indoor school record with her season best of 51-3 1/2 ? and moved ahead of then-teammate Mary Etter (49-6 1/4).
