Winter earned his berth on the Canadian unit thanks to his seventh-place finish in the national junior championships last December (25:33), and finished only 20 seconds behind the winner Jean Claude Ndwingoma.
Winter also ran in the world harrier finale in 2004 in Brussels, Belgium (87th, 27:53) and stood fourth on the 13th-place Canadian unit.
On the track, he ran the steeplechase in the World Junior Championships in 2003 (third, 2K-5:44.23) and 2004 (19th, 3K-9:00.58) ? and ran with Duck teammate Kyle Alcorn in the latter edition. Winter owns a 3,000 steeplechase best of 8:54.94 from 2004, and this season he teams with returning All-American Brett Holts and 2004 U.S. junior champ Alcorn to give the Ducks one of the nation’s top steeplechase trios on the collegiate scene.
