Postseason Honors Begin for Hairston, Taylor, Brooks

EUGENE, Ore. ? Malik Hairston, Bryce Taylor and Aaron Brooks were all honored on postseason basketball teams by the Pac-10 Monday, while Hairston was also named to the Rivals.com freshman All-America third team.
Taylor and Hairston were named to the five-player Pac-10 all-freshman team. Hairston, from Detroit, Mich., is averaging 13.1 points, 5.0 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game and is shooting .509 from the field. Taylor, from Encino, Calif., is averaging 11.6 points per game and has hit 37 percent (44-of-119) of his three-point field goal attempts. Taylor also received freshman All-America honorable mention from Rivals.com
The two Ducks were joined on the Pac-10 team by league freshman of the year Jordan Farmar of UCLA, Aaron Afflalo, also of UCLA and USC’s Gabe Pruitt. It is just the second time in school history that two Ducks have been named to the all-freshman team. Luke Ridnour and Luke Jackson both made the Pac-10 all-freshman squad in 2001.
Brooks, a sophomore from Seattle, Wash., was named all-Pac-10 honorable mention. He is averaging 14.7 points and 4.6 assists per game. Earlier this season, Brooks tied an Oregon record for a sophomore when he scored 34 points Dec. 31 against USC.
Ike Diogu of Arizona State was named Pac-10 player of the year, while Washington’s Lorenzo Romar was named coach of the year.
Oregon, 14-13 overall and 6-12 in the Pac-10, did not qualify for the eight-team Pac-10 Tournament, but is hoping for an NIT bid, which could come late Sunday after the NCAA Tournament field is announced.
