Two Women?s Basketball Assistant Coaches Resign

EUGENE, Ore. ? University of Oregon women’s basketball assistant coaches Allison and Mike McNeill will resign their positions effective April 11.
The husband-and-wife coaching tandem, brought on during head coach Bev Smith’s first year in 2001-02, will return to the Vancouver, B.C., area to be closer to family and continue their work with the Canadian National Team.
“It has been a great four years and we are really going to miss the kids, community and UO,” Allison McNeill said. “We will always look back on our years very fondly. We would like to thank Bev for giving us this tremendous opportunity.”
Allison McNeill, the Canadian National Team head coach since 2001, was elevated to the associate head coach position at Oregon in 2002. She was a teammate of Smith’s at Oregon from 1979 to 1981. Mike McNeill, an assistant on the National Team, concentrated on offense and player development for the Ducks.
“As the head coach of a Division I program, I could not have had two greater teachers and people help me to establish an incredible foundation for our Oregon basketball program. Even in their absence, Oregon will continue to reap the benefits of Mike and Allison’s contributions. We wish them the very best as they return home to family and the national team in Canada.”
The McNeills helped Oregon to a 21-10 record, second-place Pac-10 finish and at-large bid into the NCAA Tournament where it defeated TCU in the first round and lost to Final Four participant Baylor in the second round.
Oregon will immediately begin a national search for their replacements.
