Women's Tennis Signs Swiss Standout

Claudia Hirt from Lucerne, Switzerland, signed a letter of intent Friday to play with the 2005-06 University of Oregon women’s tennis team, head coach Nils Schyllander announced. Ranked as high as No. 17 in the Swiss women’s rankings, Hirt will begin play with the Ducks next fall.
"I am really looking forward to coming to Oregon," Hirt said. "I have heard so many great things about the team and the coaching staff. This is a great opportunity for me academically and athletically."
Hirt will help fill the void of departing seniors Daria Panova, Ester Bak, and Davina Mendiburu. All three players have combined for 216 career singles victories.
"We are thrilled to have Claudia join our program," Schyllander said. "She is going to make an immediate impact on the court and in the classroom."
The Ducks (15-7, 2-5) close out the regular season Sunday against Washington State, in Pullman, at 1:30 p.m.
