Jordan & Young Pace UO in Oregon Invite Hep & Dec First Day
Junior and first-year Duck Lauryn Jordan stands second in the women’s heptathlon with 3,156 points after four events, and trails Manuela Kurrat (first, 3,298), an NCAA indoor veteran from Idaho. Another NCAA veteran, Julie Elliott of
Kurrat scored marks of 14.71 in the 100 hurdles (w1.7), 5-5 in the high jump, 43-6 in the shot put and 25.10 in the 200 (w:2.3).
Elliott ended with marks of 14.46 in the 100 hurdles (w:1.7), 5-6 in the high jump, 31-0 in the shot put and 26.59 in the 200 (w:2.3).
On the men’s side, Idaho’s Jereme Richardson paced first day totals with 3,586 points, and was trailed by Oregon’s Andy Young (second, 3,544) and Cody Fleming (fourth, 3,528), and Montana State’s Brad Benjamin (third, 3,531).
An NCAA returnee from 2004, Richardson came away with first day marks of 11.29 in the 100 (w:2.7), 20-3 3/4 in the long jump (w:1.7), 41-2 1/2 in the shot put, 6-4 in the high jump and 50.74 in the 400.
Young, also an NCAA veteran last year, posted marks of 11.50 in the 100 (w:2.7), 21-8 1/4 in the long jump (w:2.6), 37-4 in the shot put, 6-1 1/2 in the high jump and 50.06 in the 400.
The leader through much of the first day standings, first-year Duck Fleming collected marks of 11.74 in the 100 (w:1.1), 21-1 1/2 in the long jump (w:2.0), 45-1 3/4 in the shot put, 6-4 in the high jump and 52.88 in the 400.
Another Duck and former Lane CC product, redshirt Brian Bartow, stood eighth overall (3,365), and posted the following marks – 11.76 in the 100 (w:2.7), 20-11 1/4 in the long jump (w:2.1), 41-0 1/4 in the shot put, 6-0 1/2 in the high jump and 52.61 in the 400.
“As a group we had a solid start, despite a couple of disappointing performances,” Young said. “I’ve never ended the first day in the top five, so I’m fairly pleased so far. My shot put was a PR, my 100 was better than the Texas Relays, my long jump could have been better but I salvaged it with a decent third try, and I got a PR in the 400. Brian is getting better in the 100 and did well in the shot put. Cody had a slight PR in the shot put and worked through some hamstring issues to finish strong.”
