Doubles Team of Bak and Mendiburu Advance at Pac-10 Champs

OJAI, Calif. ? The University of Oregon women’s tennis team experienced another up-and-down day at the Pacific-10 Championships Friday. Seniors Ester Bak and Davina Mendiburu were the lone Ducks to advance with a semifinal berth in tomorrow’s invitational doubles draw.
In the championship draw, Daria Panova and Dominika Dieskova won their team-best 23rd match of the season, defeating ASU’s Jessican Rankin and Josyln Burkett in the opening round, but fell to USC’s Dianne Matias and Nicole Leimbach in the quarterfinals, 8-6. With the opening round win, Panova and Dieskova passed former Ducks Kumi Nagamoto and Cindy Grall (1987-88, 22-3) for first all-time for single-season doubles wins.
After receiving a first-round bye, Bak and Mendiburu defeated UW’s Allison Rainey and Stephanie Svanfeldt, 9-8, in the quarterfinals. The duo are now 22-7 on the season and currently sit tied for second all-time behind Panova and Dieskova.
Bak lost in the quarterfinals of the invitational singles to ASU’s Jennifer Leitch earlier today.
