Oregon Invite 10K Results - University of Oregon Athletics

EUGENE - In Friday evening's Oregon Invitational 10K races, Utah State's Liza Riplinger and Team Eugene's Steve Laurie handily won the respective 25-lap contests.

On the women's side, Riplinger broke out from the start to a 30-meter lead in the early laps, and maintained a 100-meter cushion throughout much of the last 2/3 of the race en route to a time of 36:03.04. Riplinger averaged 85-87-second laps solo the whole way in sunny, low-60 degree conditions.

Chico State's Laura Cohen followed in second (36:57.04) and ran much of the early way with teammate Katie Lee before she dropped out after the halfway point. Albertson's Shannon Edwards moved up through the race to take third at the end (38:04.37), ahead of Portland's Elise Sabin (fourth, 38:15.64), Oregon State's Nicole Crawford (38:17.04) and Seattle's Alana Garcia (sixth, 38:17.28).

In the evening's final race, Team Eugenen's Steve Laurie took the lead at the 3-mile mark with a 14:31 split, en route to a 19-second victory (30:26.89).

Gonzaga's Joe Miller ran most of the final 2/3 of the race in second place by himself (second, 30:45.22). Oregon redshirt freshman and Beaverton product Patrick Werhane moved up to third late in the race, and successfully weathered a challenge from Team Eugene's Matt Dressel (fourth, 30:54.04) in the final mile.

Action resumes Saturday morning with the final day's morning session that starts at 10 am with the women's 5K, and ends with the 4x400 relay at 2 pm, and is free to the fans.

The evening session (which requires tickets for spectators) opens with the first field event at 3 pm, and the first running event at 4:45 pm. The evening is capped by several distance races that conclude after 8 pm, including the collegiate debut by Duck freshman Galen Rupp who was cleared to race for the Ducks early Friday evening.
