UO Men?s Golf Hopes to Continue Solid Spring at Karsten

EUGENE, Ore. ? Coming off a win at last week’s Western Intercollegiate, the Oregon men’s golf team looks to extend its strong spring against five of the nation’s top-25 teams Friday and Saturday at the 33rd annual ASU Thunderbird Invitational. Teams will play 36 holes Friday at the par-70, 7,037-yard Karsten Golf Course in Tempe, Ariz., and a final 18 on Saturday.
Oregon will send the same five golfers who won the Western Intercollegiate title -- juniors Chris Dukeminier (Eugene, Ore.), Justin St. Clair (Springfield, Ore,) and Gregg LaVoie, and sophomores Matt Ma and Jay Snyder -- to Tempe. Ma, a sophomore from Aiea, Hawaii, has three top five finishes in five tournaments this season.
The 14-team field includes five ranked in this week’s Golfstat top 25 -- No. 2 Nevada-Las Vegas, No. 8 Brigham Young, No. 11 UCLA, No. 15 Arizona State and No. 17 Arizona -- as well as California, Colorado State, Hawaii, Kansas State, Oregon, Penn State, Pepperdine, Stanford and Texas Tech.
The Ducks finished 14th at last year’s ASU Thunderbird Invitational, shooting 865. St. Clair tied for 39th at 215, while Ma tied for 51st at 219.
