Women?s Golf Gets Final Tune-up Prior to Pac-10 Tournament

EUGENE, Ore. ? The Oregon women’s golf team heads to its final tournament prior to the Pac-10 Championships this Saturday and Sunday at the Peg Barnard Invitational in Stanford, Calif. Teams will play 18 holes each day on the par 72, 6,168-yard Stanford Golf Course.
Oregon has three top-five finishes this spring, but is coming off a disappointing 12th-place showing at last week’s Ping/ASU Invitational, where the team carded an opening round of 295, but tailed off from there.
Oregon’s five players will be the same as they have been for the majority of the season: senior Johnna Nealy, juniors Erin Andrews and Michelle Timpani, sophomore Kim McCready and freshman Victoria Wenslow.
Nealy, from Grants Pass, Ore., has been Oregon’s most consistent golfer this season, having finished 31st or higher in every tournament except the first one, and has a scoring average of 75.1. Andrews has been the Ducks’ hottest golfer of late. She brings a 76.1 scoring average into the Peg Barnard and has three-straight top-20 finishes.
The 14-team field consists of No. 6 Washington, No. 12 Stanford, No. 22 Washington State, UC Irvine, Denver, Fresno State, Long Beach State, Montana State, Oregon, Oregon State, Portland State, San Francisco, San Jose State and Santa Clara.
Oregon placed ninth at last season’s Peg Barnard with a score of 631. Timpani tied for 25th at 156, while Andrews was 30th at 157, Nealy was 34th at 158 and McCready tied for 40th at 161. The Ducks won the Peg Barnard Invitational trophy in 2001.
