Men's Tennis Hits The Court This Weekend Against Arizona Schools

This weekend serves as a prime opportunity for the University of Oregon men’s tennis team (7-13, 0-4) to get back on track. The Ducks host sub-.500 Arizona State (Fri., 1:30 p.m.) and Arizona (Sat., 1 p.m.) at the Student Tennis Center. No. 14 Sven Swinnen continues his push for a top seed at the NCAA Championships, boasting a 21-6 overall record, with eight wins over ranked opponents.
Last Week ? The Ducks lost both matches to the L.A. schools. Sven Swinnen snapped a three-match losing streak with a huge win over No. 8 Benjamin Kohlloeffel of UCLA.
Scouting ASU ? The Sun Devils are 6-11 on the year and led by No. 122 Clinton Letcher. Last season, the Ducks defeated ASU in Eugene, 4-3.
Scouting Arizona ? The Wildcats are 8-9 and losers of five of their last six. UA is led by senior Roger Matalonga who is ranked No. 55 and 14-13 overall on the season.
Super Sven ? With a 21-6 overall record, Swinnen is ranked No. 14 in the recent ITA rankings. Swinnen looks destine for a second consecutive postseason berth and with a strong finish, could earn one of the top 16 seeds in the singles draw.
Snap Out of It ? Despite a 10-match losing streak and countless injuries leaving the Ducks without a full lineup for much of the season, UO has a prime opportunity with three home matches remaining to make a case for the postseason. With how strong the Pac-10 is (four teams in the top-25), three Pac-10 victories would give the selection committee something to think about.
