Freshman Tailback T.R. Smith Ruled Ineligible

EUGENE ? University of Oregon tailback T.R. Smith has been declared ineligible by the NCAA for reasons not previously discerned through its initial evaluation process required for admission,” head coach Mike Bellotti announced Friday.
The university will be unable to provide any further details due to the Student Privacy Act.
The Portland standout initially signed a letter of intent to attend Oregon during February of 2004 but did not enroll at the school until January of 2005. Because Smith received institutional financial aid and began attending classes during the winter term after cleared by the NCAA, he cannot regain his eligibility at Oregon or any other Pacific-10 Conference institution.
Smith attracted All-America acclaim by SuperPrep magazine following his senior high school season despite missing the majority of the year due to an ankle injury. However he accumulated 1,711 yards total offense at Jefferson High School as a junior in 2002 to earn first-team all-Portland Interscholastic League honors.
