Women's Tennis Begins NCAA Regional Play Friday vs. Fresno State

All previous accomplishments mean nothing as the real season begins for the No. 29-ranked University of Oregon women’s tennis team. Friday, the Ducks (16-7, 3-5) face off against Fresno State in the opening round of the NCAA Team Championships at Stanford, Calif. The winner of Oregon vs. Fresno State will take on the winner of No. 1-ranked and two-time defending NCAA champ Stanford vs. Army, on Saturday. Scouting Fresno State
The Bulldogs (16-8, 4-0) claimed the Western Athletic Conference title this season and are currently in the midst of an eight-match winning streak. FSU is led by No. 99-ranked Katharia Winterhalter who is 22-12 on the season. Courtney Jantz and Lucia Sainz are 28-7 in doubles play and ranked No. 41. As a team, Fresno State is ranked No. 45 nationally. Lifetime, the Bulldogs own a 6-1 edge over the Ducks and won their last meeting vs. UO, 4-2 (2001), at Fresno.

NCAA Tournament
The tournament is comprised of 64 teams that include 16, four-team regionals. The winner of each regional will advance to the Sweet Sixteen, May 19, at Athens, Ga.
Oregon Postseason History
The Ducks are 3-5 lifetime in the postseason. This season’s berth marks the Ducks’ second consecutive bid and third in four years. Last season, Oregon defeated New Mexico 4-3, and then fell to No. 9 Washington, 4-3, in the second round.
