Men's Tennis Signs So Cal Standout

Ben Steensland of Thousand Oaks, Calif., signed a National Letter of Intent to play with the 2005-06 University of Oregon men’s tennis team, head coach Kevin Kowalik announced Thursday. The Westlake High School graduate will begin play with the Ducks next fall.
"We are excited to have Ben join our program," Oregon head coach Kevin Kowalik said. "He is very athletic and has the capability of becoming a solid Pac-10 player. Ben’s prep experience and success will give him a head start when he joins us next season."
Steensland was named Marmonte League MVP in 2003 and posted an impressive 33-2 singles mark this past season. Steensland has been ranked as high as No. 122 nationally and No. 21 in Southern California according to the United States Tennis Association junior rankings. Steensland also helped lead Westlake to two conference titles and a CIF championship in 2002.
As a team, the Ducks finished the 2004-05 campaign 8-15 overall and 1-6 in Pac-10 play. No. 9-ranked senior Sven Swinnen will begin play at the NCAA Individual Championships, Wed., May 25, at College Station, Texas.
