Softball Headed To Norman, Okla., For NCAA Regional Tournament

EUGENE -- The University of Oregon softball team will travel to Norman, Okla., for the NCAA Regional tournament hosted by the University of Oklahoma being held Friday-Sunday, May 20-22. Oregon, which earned a No. 2 seed will face No. 3 seeded and 14th-ranked Louisiana-Lafayette Friday at 3 p.m. PDT, as it begins its quest for its first Women’s College World Series appearance since 1989.
Oregon (34-23), capped the regular season with shutout wins over No. 12 UCLA (3-0) and No. 21 Washington (3-0) before losing the regular season finale to the Huskies in Seattle.
The Ducks’ tournament-opening game will be a rematch of the 2003 NCAA Regional tournament championship game in Fullerton, Calif., in which the Rajin’ Cajuns defeated Oregon 6-4 to advance to the WCWS.
The Rajin’ Cajuns are winners of 10 straight overall and 28 of their last 29 since March 29 and this is their seventh straight tournament appearance.
Oregon is making its third consecutive trip to the NCAA Regional tournament, marking just the second time in school history that the program has made it to postseason play in three consecutive seasons. Under head coach Kathy Arendsen, the Ducks have advanced to the regional championship game in 2003 and 2004. Last season, Florida State defeated Oregon 2-0 for the right to advance to the WCWS.
