Women's Tennis Earns Trip to Postseason, Opens Against Fresno State

It was announced Wednesday for the second consecutive season, the No. 29-ranked University of Oregon women’s tennis team will be headed to the postseason. The Ducks (16-7, 3-5) received the No. 2 seed at the four-team regional hosted by No. 1-ranked Stanford, starting Friday, May 13, at Stanford, Calif. The Ducks will take on the No. 3 seed, Fresno State, in opening round play, at 10 a.m. The winner of Oregon vs. Fresno State will take on the winner of Stanford vs. Army on Saturday, May 14.
"Fresno is a tough team and we look forward the challenge," Oregon head coach Nils Schyllander said. "I am proud of the way our team performed this season and confident last season’s postseason experience will help us."
The NCAA Championships are comprised of 64 teams, broken into 16, four-team regionals. The winners of all 16 regionals will head to Athens, Ga. to compete in the Sweet Sixteen draw, starting May 19.
Last season, the Ducks defeated New Mexico in the opening round and then fell inches short of making their first-ever trip to Sweet Sixteen, losing to Washington, 4-3, in the second round.
Fresno State (16-8, 4-0) is ranked No. 45 in the ITA rankings and won the Western Athletic Conference regular season title.
Stanford (21-0) will enter the tournament as the two-time defending national champs and winners of its last 50 matches.
The bid marks the sixth time to Ducks have reached the field of 64 and the third in four years. Oregon is 3-5 lifetime in the postseason.
