Bristow, Leneve Sign Letters with Oregon Golf Programs

EUGENE, Ore. ? Cathryn Bristow and Andrew Leneve have signed national letters of intent to compete for the Oregon golf teams next year, the University announced Monday.
Bristow, from Huapai, New Zealand, was ranked as one of that island nation’s top 10 female amateur golfers in February and earned low amateur honors at the ING New Zealand Rotarians Minister’s Cup in April.
"Cathryn will be coming to us as a 20-year-old freshman," said Oregon women’s golf Shannon Rouillard. "So we’re excited to have someone with that kind of experience and maturity joining the program.
"She’s also just really excited about coming to Oregon and her energy and her attitude will be tremendous assets," said Rouillard.
Bristow was a member of New Zealand’s 2004 Queensland Stroke Play championship team. She also won the 2003 Taranaki provincial stroke play championships, tied for sixth at the 2005 23-and-Under South Island championships (78-72-78-228) and is a member of the New Zealand developmental squad.
She will join fellow left-hander and incoming freshman Blair Ressler of Bellingham, Wash., who signed in the fall, as Oregon’s rookie class this fall. The Ducks graduated three seniors, Jess Carlyon, Johnna Nealy and Jaime Seefried off the 2004-05 roster. Nealy qualified for the NCAA Championships as an individual this season.
Leneve tied for medalist honors at the 2003 Oregon 4A state tournament, shooting a 71-70-141, and helping Tualatin High School win the team title. After not playing in 2004, Leneve tied for 33rd at the 2005 state championships (79-75-154), helping Tualatin finish second.
"Andrew is another premier golfer from the State of Oregon who we were able to keep in the state, and that’s something we’ve always been committed to," said UO men’s golf coach Steve Nosler. "Andrew had a really good year in 2003 and then suffered some setbacks, but he’s getting back to form and I think we have a real diamond in the rough in him."
Leneve joins fall signees Landon Banks of Beaverton, Ore., and Ross Canavan of Rancho Mirage, Calif., as freshmen for 2005-06. Leneve and Banks will also be two of six native Oregonians on the roster. The Duck men had no seniors on the 2004-05 team.
