Ducks Rack Up 23 Pac-10 All-Academic Track Laurels
WALNUT CREEK, Calif., -- The Pacific-10 Conference recently selected 23 University of Oregon men’s and women’s track and field student-athletes (10 M, 13 W) to its annual all-academic teams, according to Commissioner Tom Hansen.

WALNUT CREEK, Calif., -- The Pacific-10 Conference recently selected 23 University of Oregon men’s and women’s track and field student-athletes (13 W, 10 M) to its annual all-academic teams, according to Commissioner Tom Hansen. The UO women ranked second among first-team honorees (3) ? one behind On the NCAA veterans and redshirt juniors Elisa Crumley and Hannah Moore were named to the Pac-10 All-Academic Second Team. Both Ducks redshirted the 2004 outdoor season and were not eligible for Pac-10 academic recognition, while in 2003, the duo were honorable mention and second-team selections, respectively. UO women selected to the honorable mention team included NCAA veterans and seniors Laura Harmon, Sarah Malone, Kayla Mellott and Magdalena Sandoval, senior Michelle Donovan, junior Haripurkh Khalsa, NCAA veteran and sophomore Emily Enders and redshirt freshman Irie Searcy. Donovan, Harmon, Khalsa and Sandoval had received honorable mention acclaim before. Historically on the women’s side, the Duck women have claimed three or more first-team honorees nine times since 1991, including a school record five on five occasions (1991, ’93, ’95, ’98, ’03) On the men’s side in ’05, Duck men’s first-team honorees included redshirt freshman and sophomore sprinters Caleb and Sol Rexius, All-America junior sprinter Matt Scherer and NCAA veteran and redshirt junior decathlete Andy Young. Young claimed his third straight first-team honor, and Scherer was also a first-team selection in 2004. Junior Matt Adams was the lone Duck on the conference all-academic second team. Honorable mention awards went to All-America redshirt seniors Brett Holts and Eric Logsdon, NCAA veterans and sophomores Kyle Alcorn and Jordan Kent and Pac-10 scorer and redshirt sophomore David Moore. In prior editions, Holts was an honorable mention in 2002, ?03 and ?04, Logsdon was a second-team choice in 2004 and an honorable mention in 2002 and ’03, and The Men of Oregon continued a string of recent success that included a league-high and school-best five first-team selections in 2003 and ?04, four first-team honors in 2002, and three more in 2001. Since the award’s debut in 1991, the Ducks had claimed four or more honorees once before their recent run (4, 1996), and three honors in 1991, ?92, ’94 and ’97. To be eligible for selection to the academic team, student-athletes must have a minimum 3.0 overall grade-point average and be either a starter or significant contributor.
