Ducks Fly Past Roadrunners
The Oregon Wrestling team continued to wrestle well in 24-11 victory over Cal State Bakersfield, Friday afternoon in McArthur Court.
The Ducks got strong performances from Shane Webster, Joey Bracamonte and Ryan Dunn whose takedown with less than 10 seconds left won his match at 125.
“We wrestled pretty well this afternoon, some of our matches were a little flat, but it was a good match overall,” head coach Chuck Kearney said. “Ryan Dunn wrestled a very tough match against a good collegiate wrestler to score like he did in the final seconds was huge.”
In all the Ducks won seven of the 10 matches en route to the victory.
At 197 Shaun Dee ripped off 11 points while only allowing 1 to score the 11-1 major decision victory.
In the heavyweight match Chris Dearmon was shut out by Eric Parker and suffered a 5-0 loss.
Webster rolled in his match against Brandon Ceremello, scoring the technical fall victory, and putting the finishing touches on a match that was dominated by the Ducks.
“I was working on some things out there this afternoon,” Webster said. “When you are in a situation like that wrestling someone you should beat you can work on things. I was just trying to score points in every position and make myself tougher.”
Dunn’s dramatic last second takedown secured the 3-1 victory for the Duck redshirt freshman.
Skyler Woods also wrestled well in coming away with an 8-7 victory over Matt Schumm. Justin Pearch looked solid after missing time in the Ducks recent road trip to Boise and Arizona. He wrestled well enough to come away with a 4-3 victory.
Bracamonte won an 11-5 decision against Brian Busby, which pushed the team score to 16-11.
Chet McBee was solid and efficient in his match against Garth Warra, winning 5-3.
The Ducks will be back in action at 7 p.m., tonight in McArthur Court, when they face Fresno State.
