Student-Athlete of the Week - October 8 to October 14
Freshman middle blocker Sonja Newcombe has been named GoDuck.com’s player of the week for the week of October 8 to October 14th.
Sonja led Oregon to a pair of victories over Arizona State and Arizona over the weekend, marking the Ducks’ first two-match series sweep over Pac-10 opponents for the first time in 17 years.
Newcombe’s performance also earned her accolades from the Pac-10 Conference as she has also been name the Pac-10 volleyball player of the week.

Recipient of three different Player of the Year awards as a HS senior: Press Enterprise, Mojave River League, CIF … also made four All-Tournament squads … State Tournament MVP, two Player of the Year awards (Sun Newspaper, Mojave River League) and first team All-CIF as a HS junior … two-time HS scholar athlete … played for the Laguna Beach Volleyball Club.
