Student Athlete of the Week - Sept. 24 to Sept. 30

Redshirt sophomore Galen Rupp has been named the GoDucks.com Student-Athlete of the Week for the week of September 24-30.
The Portland, Ore. native placed second in the Ducks’ first home cross country meet since 1998 with a time of 23:10.
Rupp’s second place finish marked one of three top seven runners for the men’s team and one of six scorers for the Ducks.

After 1 1/2 collegiate seasons for Ducks, is already a three-time All-American and top-six NCAA placer indoors and outdoors in track and field. Looks forward to his first full cross country season in 2006 and second for the Ducks after he ran the first half of the fall campaign in 2005. One of the nation’s top young distance runners, finished as the NCAA 10,000 meters runner-up and top American finisher as a freshman outdoors in '05. In two months prior, he re-energized the Hayward Field home crowd's distance yearnings with three stirring runs, including a 10,000m U.S. junior record in the 2005 Oregon Twilight. Was high point scorer for Ducks in both the 2005 Pac-10 and NCAA Championships and helped UO men to Pac-10 team win and ninth-place NCAA finish. As a sophomore on the oval, became first Duck to claim two indoor All-America honors in individual events the same season. Ranks top-five all-time for UO outdoors in 10,000m (third, 28:15.52) and indoors in the 3,000m (third, 7:54.90) and 5,000m (13:48.51). As a prep, trained under former Oregon distance great Alberto Salazar and was a national high school athlete of the year as a senior in '04, junior record holder in the 5,000 meters (13:37.91), national cross country runner-up in '03, and a five-time state champion (track-3, cross country-2).
