2005 Oregon Cross Country Statistics
Under the guidance of first-year director of track and field Vin Lananna, the 2005 University of Oregon women's cross country squad was led by a new look varsity unit that included redshirt seniors Amber McGown and Sara Schaaf, juniors Dana Buchanan and Emily Mathis, sophomore Sarah Pearson and freshmen Katie Leary and Zoe Nelson, and were nationally ranked for the first time since 2000.
The Duck men showcased an equally fresh-faced squad in '05 that was +20-person deep. In varsity action, junior Patrick Werhane, sophomores Christopher Winter and James Withers teamed with a large class of newcomers paced by redshirt sophomores Carlos and Esteban Trujillo and freshmen Galen Rupp, Jonathan Thomas and Scott Wall, among many others.
Werhane made Oregon's 36th postseason as an NCAA Championships individual qualifier, while the UO women ranked as high as 21st during the season and were top-four as a team in the Pac-10 and Regional for the first time since 1997.
Werhane and Leary were All-Pac-10 Second Team picks for their 13th-place finishes in the Pac-10 Championships.
