Wildcats Prove Too Tough For Ducks, Win 4-3

The University of Oregon women's tennis team, fell to Arizona Friday losing, 4-3, in the Student Tennis Center. The loss drops Oregon to 10-3 on the season and 0-1 in Pac-10 play. The Ducks faced both Washington schools earlier in designated non-conference matches.
"We let this match get away from us, we should have won the doubles point, especially leading 6-2 at number three," head coach Nils Schyllander said. "We had some tough matches, but three of them were over in straight sets, losing the doubles point definitely cost us."
The Ducks lost the doubles point to open the match, winning only at No. 1 when Dominika Dieskova and Ceci Olivos edged Stephanie Balzert and Juliette Mavroleon, 8-7, after a tie breaker.
The Ducks led 5-1 on court three but Anna Leksinska and Anna Powaska couldn’t hold on for the victory as they fell, 9-8 (7-1).
In singles play the Ducks won three of five matches, to make the score 3-3, with Ceci Olivos and Mavroleon still on the court.
Mavroleon and Olivos fought every point, as some matches were nearly complete before they had wrapped a set. In the end Mavroleon won the match sealing the narrowest of victories for Arizona.
Mavroleon lost the first set 6-4, but stormed back taking the second set, 6-0, from the Duck freshman. The third set was another closely fought, hotly contested affair, with Mavroleon ultimately emerging victorious, 6-3.
The Ducks don’t have long to wait to get the taste of losing out of their mouths as they face Arizona State, Saturday at noon.
