Pair of Ducks Collects Early Wins in Oklahoma City

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. ? The University of Oregon’s two qualifiers for the NCAA Division I Wrestling Tournament, Shane Webster and Joey Bracamonte, got their tournaments off to solid starts as both collected wins in the first session of Thursday’s action in Oklahoma City. The pair will be back in action later this evening.
Webster earned his first win at the national championships in first session action, as he defeated Dave Helfrich of Lehigh by major decision, 14-4.
“Shane got off to a little bit of a slow start,” head coach Chuck Kearney said. “He started to break it open in the second period though and he is excited and ready to match up again tonight.”
Joey Bracamonte also got off to a good start as he defeated the fifth-seed Matthew Pell of Missouri in an, 8-3, decision.
“Joey wrestled a real solid match, he did everything he needed to do to beat the fifth-seed, a solid wrestler from Missouri,” Kearney said. “Joey looked sharp in winning the match.”
The tournament continues with session two tonight. Results and news will be posted on goducks.com, the U of O official website.
