GoDucks.com Student-Athlete of the Week - Shane Webster

Oregon senior wrestler Shane Webster won all five of his matches on the way to a national championship at 184 pounds this past weekend. Webster (Sams Valley, Ore./Crater High School), was on top of his game all weekend long as he ran through the bracket as the fifth-seed, defeating the No. 1 (Josh Glenn/American), 2 (Roger Kish/Minnesota) and 4 (Joseph Mazzurco/Cornell) seeds.
Webster ends his Oregon career with 106 wins, good for a tie for fourth all-time (Jeremy Ensrud 95-98). He was dominant all season long as he won 27 of 38 matches by major decision (8 pts. or more) or technical fall (15 pts.).
In the final Webster used his brain every bit as much as his brawn as he scored on an escape and a takedown, then held on to defeat Kish, by the narrowest of margins, 3-2. Webster, the two-time defending Pac-10 Champion and two-time All-American, became only the second Oregon wrestler to win a national title (Johnny Miller 1969; 115-pounds) and only the third to make it into the final match, Scott Bliss was the other (1980; 150-pounds).
