Ducks Set For Conference Action

EUGENE, -- The University of Oregon women’s tennis team will lock up with Stanford and California this weekend. Stanford comes into town ranked No. 1 in the latest Fila rankings, and will take on the Ducks beginning at 1:30 Friday afternoon. California will be in town and face the Ducks Saturday, beginning at noon. Both matches will be held at the Student Tennis Center.
“These two teams will be very tough opponents, they are not only among the best in the conference, but in the nation,” head coach Nils Schyllander said.
Stanford has been atop the polls all season long and is the two-time defending national champion. The Cardinal has not lost a match in their last 72 tries and is 16-0 this season. All six members of their starting lineup are ranked in the top-41 nationally, highlighted by Alice Barnes and Theresa Logar at 5 and 6 respectively.
California should also be a tough draw as Suzi Fodor is also among the top-25 players in the country. Fodor is currently No. 10 nationally, although Dominika Dieskova did topple Fodor in the fall at the ITA Regional tournament. Also in the top-25 nationally for the Golden Bears is Suzi Babos (21).
Dieskova is currently 15-2 in dual match play this season for the Ducks, she is currently ranked 50th in the nation in singles play by Fila. Dieskova and her doubles partner Ceci Olivos are also enjoying a great season as they are 15-2 on the year.
