EUGENE - The University of Oregon track and field program recently announced that Colleen Wrenn will serve as the program’s director of operations starting immediately.
The 25-year-old native of Palo Alto, Calif., will focus on various internal and external administrative aspects of the Duck program that relate to alumni relations, marketing, special events, and major home events such as the 2008 Olympic Trials.
Wrenn rejoins UO associate athletic director and director of track and field Vin Lananna after a tenure as special assistant to the athletic director at Oberlin College from July 2004-February 2006.
Within the athletic department of the Oberlin, Ohio, institution, she instituted a sponsorship program, directed the marketing and promotions efforts, coordinated stewardship, organized special events, and monitored student-athlete eligibility.
Wrenn brings her experience working on international events to the Oregon program. She served on the local organizing committee for the 2002 and 2003 Oracle U.S. Open and USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Stanford University. Assisting with the planning and staging of those events, she coordinated transportation, award ceremonies, sponsorship fulfillment, and the meet expo.
She worked with San Francisco's bid for the 2012 Olympics (BASOC) for three years and served as the director of accreditation and press operations for the 2002 Modern Pentathlon World Championships at Stanford. She has also served as a consultant for Morocco's bid for the 2010 FIFA World Cup and Russia's bid for the 2014 Olympic Games.
Wrenn received her master's degree in sports administration from the University of North Carolina in 2004 and was honored with the John E. Billing Graduate Student Research Merit Award. In her stint at Chapel Hill, she served as the Olympic Sports and Operations Intern and utilized her final year of eligibility in cross country and track competing for the Tar Heels. She was a member of the 2003 ACC Indoor Track and Field Championship team.
A former middle-distance runner and team captain for the College of William and Mary, Wrenn was elected to Phi Beta Kappa and graduated summa cum laude in 2002 with a degree in kinesiology.
