Ducks Meet Cougars in Pac-10 Tourney Opener

WHAT’S ON TAP . . . Seventh-seeded Oregon will face 10th-seeded Washington State in a Pac-10 tournament first round game at 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 8 in the Staples Center. The winner will meet second-seeded Washington in a quarterfinal game on Thursday.
OREGON IN THE PAC-10 TOURNAMENT . . . Oregon is 7-6 all-time in Pac-10 tournament games. The Ducks won the 2003 tournament, their first title. Oregon and Washington State have met once previously in the Pac-10 tournament: 1989, when the Cougars won a 78-56 first-round game played at the Great Western Forum in Los Angeles.
STICKING AROUND . . . Oregon also owns the distinction of being the only school to have won at least one game in every tournament its played in since the event resumed in 2002. The caveat to that, of course, is that the Ducks did not qualify for the 2005 tournament.
OREGON-WSU RECAP . . . The Ducks swept the season series from the Cougars for the fifth straight year. Oregon defeated WSU 52-50 Jan. 19 in Pullman as Malik Hairston sank a pair of three-pointers in the final :12 to lead the Ducks’ comeback victory. Contrast that game to the Feb. 18 meeting in Eugene, where Oregon turned in a defensive performance for the ages in a 67-37 win. Chamberlain Oguchi scored 18 points in that game.
WE'RE GOING STREAKING! Oregon’s current 10-game winning streak against Washington State matches the Ducks’ longest ever versus the Cougars. Oregon also defeated WSU 10 straight times between the 1923-24 and 1927-28 seasons. Overall The Ducks have won 18 of the last 19 meetings with WSU.
