Volleyball Q&A with Katie Swoboda

Throughout the offseason, GoDucks.com is conducting Q&A sessions with returning members of the Oregon volleyball team as they prepare for the 2006 campaign. February's guest is sophomore-to-be Katie Swoboda.
GoDucks.com: How excited are you to get back on the volleyball court in 2006?
Katie Swoboda: I'm very excited! We have been working extremely hard in the off-season, and continue to improve our game on all levels. It will be an exciting year and we are all looking forward to get on the court again!
GD: Describe what the transition was like for you from high school/club to Division I last year?
KS: I knew playing for a Division I school was going to be more challenging, but I was extremely excited!! The Pac-10 is full of powerhouse teams, but playing against some of the best is what I've always wanted to do.
GD: Is offseason practice difficult or different from the regular season?
KS: The offseason is great because it allows you to work on the little things. We have been able to strengthen our game by getting more one on one attention.
GD: The Ducks came so close to beating some of the best teams in the Pac-10 last season. How can you guys get over the hump next season?
KS: We just need to finish games, by becoming more consistent during pressure situations.
GD: Have you completely recovered from the concussion you suffered last year?
KS: Yup, I'm healthy and ready to go!
GD: Do you know or have you played against any of the incoming recruits?
KS: I know Netecia, because she participated in the same club as I did. She is an awesome person and a very physical player. I have also seen Sonja play during club and she is amazing as well. I'm extremely excited for all the recruits to join us for the 2006 season, because I have heard nothing but good things!
GD: What are your goals for next season?
KS: Going to the NCAA tournament.
GD: Who is the funniest person on the team?
KS: Everyone has their moments and we spend a lot of time laughing with each other.
GD: Who is your most serious teammate?
KS: On the court, we are all pretty intense. We don't really have one player who is serious all the time.
GD: Do you have any hidden talents?
KS: No, I can't say I really do. I just stick to the volleyball thing.
GD: What's your favorite place on campus?
KS: Mac Court, of course!
GD: What Pac-10 team would you most like to see the Ducks beat at Mac Court?
KS: That's a tough one, but I'm going to have to say Oregon State or UCLA. Well, how about both!
