Track and Field Teams Combine for 14 Indoor All-Academic Honors

EUGENE ? The University of Oregon track and field teams claimed 14 men’s and women’s honorees on the annual Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Indoor Track and Field All-Academic team announced this week.
Per the award’s requirements, nine Oregon women and five men sported a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better, were at least a sophomore academically, completed one full academic year at UO, and competed in at least 50 percent of the indoor season.

Among UO’s women’s honorees, Schaaf and Searcy were All-Americans on the track in the 2006 NCAA Indoor Championships in the distance medley relay (seventh, 11:18.89), while McFadden was an NCAA provisional qualifier with her pentathlon school record (3,929). Moore was also a past NCAA indoor qualifier in 2004 (13th, 12-11 1/2) after she jumped a personal best (13-5) in the UW Last Chance Meet the week before in Seattle.
For the men, McGrath was an NCAA qualifier indoors in ’06 in the mile after he ran a sub-4:00 clocking indoors (3:59.25) that ranks him second all-time for UO. Scherer was an All-American in the 400 meters and 4x400-meter relay in ’05, and Young was an NCAA indoor provisional qualifier in the heptathlon in 2004 with a personal best (5,385) that ranks him fifth all-time for UO.
Several Ducks will be up for additional academic honors during the outdoor season, and regional all-academic honors are announced in late May, Pac-10 all-academic honors are released in early June, and national all-academic honors follow in mid-June.
