Jordan Leads Mt. SAC Hep First Day
AZUSA PACIFIC, Calif. - Senior Lauryn Jordan led the Mt. SAC Relays heptathlon after the first day with a score of 3,337 points, while redshirt freshman Kalindra McFadden was in fifth place in her collegiate heptathlon debut with 3,186 points.
The Stockton, Calif., native Jordan posted first-day marks of 14.34 in the 100-meter hurdles (w:-1.7), 5-7 1/4 in the high jump, 37-0 1/2 in the shot put and 24.59 in the 200 meters (w:2.9). Her hurdles time was a .04-second heptathlon best, her high jump mark was only a half-inch off her hep best (5-7 3/4), and her 200 time was a .66-second hep best.
McFadden owned first-day marks of 14.64 in the 100-meter hurdles (w:0.0), 5-2 1/2 in the high jump, 40-7 in the shot put and 25.01 in the 200 meters (w:1.7).
Jordan topped the field by 59 points Wednesday, and was followed by Jackie Poulson of Pocatello Elite (second, 3,278) and Reidun Wallin of ASC Elite (third, 3,270).
On the men's side, redshirt senior Andrew Young was in 11th place in the decathlon with 3,429 points. Young posted first-day marks of 11.89 in the 100 meters (w:0.0), 21-9 1/2 in the long jump, 35-5 1/4 in the shot put, 6-4 3/4 in the high jump and 51.77 in the 400 meters.
Among his five marks Monday, Young enjoyed a 1 1/4-inch decathlon best in the high jump, and his other still-better first-day personal bests follow: (100 11.31w w:4.4, long jump 22-6 1/4, shot put 37-4, 400 50.13).
Overall in the decathlon, former NCAA decathlon and post-collegian Ryan Harlan owned a 170-point lead on the field with his 4,222 points, and was followed by Chris Richardson of Cal State Long Beach (second, 4,052) and Will Thomas of the Golden Bear Athletic Club (third, 3,950).
The Duck heptathletes and decathletes will return for second- and final-day action Thursday.
