Yurkovich & Veldman Compete in Mt. SAC Relays
WALNUT, Calif. - A pair of University of Oregon throwers - redshirt junior Colin Veldman and freshman Rachel Yurkovich - saw duty Friday in third-day action in the 48th annual Mt. SAC Relays, held at Helmer Lodge Stadium.
Veldman placed third in the university section of the discus (162-1), and trailed Washington State's Drew Ulrick (first, 177-3) and Idaho's Russ Winger (second, 169-2).
In the top section of the javelin, Yurkovich added seventh overall (161-7) in an event won by Danish thrower Christina Scherwin (195-11) over American record holder Kim Kreiner of Nike (second, 187-11).
Yurkovich ranked fourth among collegians and trailed a trio of All-Americans from last season - Ashley Kaufman of Akron (third, 177-2), Dana Pounds of Air Force (fourth, 174-2) and Krista Woodward of Georgia (sixth, 161-7).

Looking ahead to Saturday's final day action, four Ducks are tentatively slated to compete - All-Americans Eric Mitchum (110-meter hurdles) and Matt Scherer (400 meters), and NCAA women's hammer throw veterans Britney Henry and Brittany Hinchcliffe.
