GoDucks.com Student-Athlete of the Week - Matt Scherer

Senior Matthew Scherer, from Sumner, Illinois, has been named the GoDucks.com Student-Athlete of the Week for the week of April 16-22nd.
The six-time All-American ran another season best at home to win the 400 meters (45.90) in the Oregon Invitational last weekend. His time was better than the previous week’s Pac-10 leader, and he also ran on UO’s winning 4x100m and 4x400m relays last Saturday (41.18 / 3:13.23). Career-wise, UO’s fourth-ranked all-time 400m runner has broken the 46.00-second barrier five times in his career ? with the previous four in Pac-10, West Regional and NCAA action. He is
also a regional qualifier and team leader in the 800 meters (1:50.25) in ?06, and also owns UO’s season best in the 200 meters outdoors (personal best 21.37). Last year he ran on UO’s school record 4x100m and 4x400m relays that placed sixth and third in the NCAA Outdoor Championships (39.20 / 3:00.81). Earlier in the ’05 championship run, he was fourth in the Pac-10 and West Regional 400m (46.11 / 46.52), and ran on the 4x100m and 4x400m relays that both took second in the Pac-10 Championships.
