Vlad Pino Shines in First Day Action at Ojai

OJAI, Calif., -- The University of Oregon's men's tennis team had a rough opening day at the Ojai Tournament, suffering a string of losses, at the venerable tournament, site of the Pacific-10 championships.
Vlad Pino was able to secure the lone wins onthe day for Oregon as he collected a victory over Dave Ryan of Stanford, 6-3, 6-3. Pino continued to play well as he scored a second round victory as well.
Mike Myrhed was on the wrong end of the scoreboard in his match with Jonathan Kinsella of Arizona State, as he fell in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2. Hugh McDonald also suffered a loss in his first Ojai Tournament match as he fell to Washington’s David Chu, 6-2, 6-3. Fernando Freitas was unable to break the losing streak for Oregon’s freshmen as he fell, 6-3, 6-0 to Washington’s Klaus Jank.
Some of Oregon’s more experienced players suffered tough losses as well as Stanford’s James Pade defeated Duck senior Thomas Bieri, 6-1, 6-4. Eric Pickard was also the victim of a set back as he fell to Ken Nakahara of California, 6-3, 6-3.
