Dieskova Tabbed Pac-10 Player of the Week

EUGENE ? Commissioner Tom Hansen has announced that University of Oregon junior women’s tennis player Dominika Dieskova was named Player of the Week, for the week of April 3.
“I am pleased for Dominika, she has played very well in her Pac-10 matches, she is 7-0 so far this season and if she keeps playing like that she may well be Pac-10 player of the year,” head coach Nils Schyllander said. “She is finally starting to win these big matches and putting together a nice winning streak, it just shows hard work pays off.”
Dieskova, who won both of her matches at number one singles, was a perfect 2-0 on the weekend, with both of her wins coming against players ranked in the top-15 by Fila-ITA.
On the weekend Dieskova felled Stanford’s Amber Liu (No. 15), Liu is a two-time NCAA Individual champion. Dieskova won the match in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2.
“That was maybe the biggest win in the history of Oregon tennis, certainly the biggest since I have been with the program,” Schyllander said.
Against California’s Suzi Fodor, Dieskova had a much tougher match. Dieskova won the first set, 6-4. In the second set Fodor was able to hold a slight lead before Dieskova tied it at 6 games apiece. Fodor won the tie breaker 7-4 to claim the second set. In the third set which was played as a super tie breaker Dieskova and Fodor traded points until 6-6. At that point Dieskova took over and won the next four points, to claim the match.
The Ducks return to action Thursday, April 13, when they face Loyola Marymount, in Los Angeles, beginning at 1:30 p.m.
