Arizona Blanks Ducks

TUCSON, Ariz. ? The University of Oregon men’s tennis team was shut out in Tucson, against the University of Arizona, 7-0, Friday at the LaNelle Robson Tennis Center.
Oregon was swept in straight sets in all six of the singles matches. Roger Matalonga, currently ranked 43rd in the nation by Fila, swept Thomas Bieri, 6-2, 6-3.
Arron Spencer fell to Jeff Groslimond, 6-2, 7-5. Gustavo Loza, the true freshman from Mexico City, was also unable to score a victory as he fell, 6-2, 6-2 to Claudio Christen.
Oregon was also unable to score a win in doubles play as Groslimond and Christen teamed up to defeat Loza and Bieri, 8-2. Matalonga and Francois VanderMerwe defeated Fernando Freitas and Eric Pickard, 8-2. Bruno Alcala and Peter Zimmer teamed up to complete the sweep of Oregon in doubles play as they edged the team of Vlad Pino and Hugh McDonald, 6-5 (7-3).
The Ducks return to the courts Sunday when they face Arizona State in Tempe, beginning at 10 a.m.
