Men’s 4x100 Meter Relay (FINAL) ? 2:20 p.m.
Del Rincon of Oregon strong on the first leg, the Ducks lead on the first exchange. Cal running strong on the back straight and looks to be the leader at the second exchange. USC has a great handoff and leads around the curve, but Jones of Oregon is closing on the inside. USC still the clear leader at the final exchange, but Kent of Oregon blows by Alugbue of USC and the Ducks win in 39.74 as the crowd goes explodes. Kent pumps his fist and struts as the Ducks celebrate on the infield.
Women’s 4x100 Meter Relay (FINAL) ? 2:27 p.m.
Stanford a great leadoff leg and handoff, far ahead down the back straight with USC in second and Cal in third. USC makes up ground on the third leg and is almost even with Stanford at the final handoff. Rodriguez of USC runs away for the title in 43.81. Stanford second and Cal finishes third.
Men’s 1,500 Meters (FINAL) ? 2:35 p.m.
Brown of Stanford to the early lead and Abbott of UW tucks in behind. Haddan of UCLA is in third, Cheseret is in 5th, McGrath of UO is in the pack on the pole. Brown 400 meters in 57.7. Maiyo of UA moves into third ahead of Haddan. Cheseret is running in lane 2 approaching the 800. 800 meters in 1:59.8, the pace has slowed. McGrath is now in the second group. Brown, Maiyo, Abbott on the inside and Cheseret on the outside. Bell lap in 2:46.5 Brown still in front. McGrath is starting to move. 1200 in 3:02.3, Cheseret moves down the back stretch and Brown tries to hold him off. Cheseret in the lead with 200 meters to, followed by Brown and Abbott, Cheseret runs away for the win in 3:41.88, Brwon hangs on for second in 3:43.49, Maiyo nips Abbott for third in 3:43.84. McGrath tries to sneaks by but ends up fifth in 3:44.7. Cheseret’s last lap was 55.3.
Women’s 1,500 Meters (FINAL) ? 2:45 p.m.
Arizona’s Edwards takes the early lead, but Lambie of Stanford takes the lead on the curve. McGown of Oregon is in third. 49.2 at 300, the pace is quick. Lambie passes the 400 with a 2 meter lead. 66.4. McGown, Lia of UW, Edwards and Amanda Trotter of Stanford follow. Noble of Oregon is in 8th. 2 laps to go Noble is 4 meters behind the lead group. 800 meters in 2:14,8 with Lambie, followed by Lia. McGown is 5 meters behind them. Noble is in 7th five meters behind the single file line ahead of her, she will have to close hard to get in the top 5. At the bell, Lambie has a 2 meter lead on Lia, McGown is 30 meters back with Caldwell and Edwards. 3:05.4 at the bell and 3:22.3 at 1200. Noble is so far back she can’t make much of a dent. 200 to go, McGown tries to catch Lia. Lambie is all alone down the homestraight, the crowd tries to will McGown in to second , but Lia holds on. Ellison passes Noble, who finishes 9th. Lambie runs 4:15.65, and Lia PRs in 4:18.88 with McGown in 4:19.00, a PR.
Men’s 110 Meter Hurdles (FINAL) ? 3 p.m.
Kelley of USC and Craddock of UCLA get great starts, flanking Mitchum of Oregon in the middle of the track. Frazier of USC appears to have trouble out of the blocks and jogs to the first hurdle. Mitchum takes control at the 4th hurdle and wins going away in 13.54, the wind is a legal 2.0. Craddock gets second in 13.73, Ikwaukor of Oregon charges up and leans to edge out Kelley and finish 3rd in 14.00. Kelley, 14.02.
Women’s 110 Meter Hurdles (FINAL) ? 3:10 p.m.
USC’s Powell gets a fast start and leads wire-to-wire for a victory in 12.64 with a +2.0 wind. That time leads the world this year. Davis of USC finishes 2nd in 13.28, followed by Johnson of ASU in 13.52. Harper of UCLA in contention until midrace when the wrap on her left thigh comes off.
Men’s 400 Meters (FINAL) ? 3:35 p.m.
Scherer of Oregon is very slow the first 50 as Larry of USC busts to an immediate lead. He has made up the stagger on Scherer by 100 meters and is the clear leader down the back straight. Scherer stays with him around the curve even though Larry is one lane inside. Off the curve Scherer powers away to win in 45.19 and Everhart of UCLA slides by Larry for 2nd 45.78 to 45.85. Scherer’s time is the collegiate leader and is the second fastest ever by a Duck.
Women’s 400 Meters (FINAL) ? 3:42 p.m.
Johnson of Stanford running very well early in lane 7. Bayne of Stanford is also there at 200 and Leach of UCLA is well back. Leach starts to gather with 150 to go, but it is too late. She closes on Bayne, who struggles to the finish but holds on to win in 52.35. Leach runs 52.62 and Johnson 3rd in 53.20. Big points for Stanford.
Men’s 100 Meters (FINAL) ? 3:50 p.m.
Del Rincon of Oregon in the middle of the track gets a great start and has a half meter on the field after 30, but Francis of USC powers past to win easily in 10.25. Del Rincon edges out Jones of USC for 2nd, 10.41 to 10.43. Peterson of ASU is right there for 4th in 10.44. The surprising footballer Stanback of UW is 5th in 10.50. The wind is +1.4.
Women’s 100 Meters (FINAL) ? 3:57 p.m.
Rodriguez of USC gets a terrible start as her teammate Powell sprints to an immediate lead. Davis of Stanford finishes strongly and Rodriguez gets passed Carter of Cal for 3rd. Powell runs 11.10, Davis 11.29, Rodriguez 11.40 and Carter 11.41. The wind is +1.7. Powell completes her double after her win the 100 meter hurdles.
Men’s 800 Meters (FINAL) ? 4:05 p.m.
Solomon of USC to the lead early at the break with Asafo-Agyei of USC and Cunningham behind him. Munguia of UCLA moves into third ahead of Cunningham at the 250, McGrath of Oregon trails. Solomon in 53.7 at the bell as Cunningham falls hard and breaks up the field just 50 meters later. Trojans 1-2 at 600 with Solomon and Asafo-Agyei. The field is really spread out, McGrath has run hard to get into third place, McClary of Cal passes McGrath with 150 to go. Then Brown of UW flies past McClary to get third as Solomon wins easily and Asafo-Agyei gets second. Solomon in 1:48.03, Asafo-Agyei 1:49.07.
Women’s 800 Meters (FINAL) ? 4:12 p.m.
No one seems to want the lead at the break and it is a tight pack moving slowly. 200 in 30.8 with Johnson of Cal in the lead. Noble of Oregon in 3rd. At 300 it is Johnson , Caldwell of UCLA and Noble. 65.1 for the first 400. The pack is moving smoothly in spite of the slow pace and now Schaaf breaks to the lead with 250 to go, Noble starts to move with 200 to go. Johnson, Schaaf and Noble are running are running 1-2-3 off the last curve. Then, Noble rushes past Johnson and into lane 1. Noble powers away to a big win, Johnson is an easy 2nd and Schaaf gets a clear 3rd. No times on the scoreboard.
Men’s 400 Meter Hurdles (FINAL) ? 4:22 p.m.
Cassleman of WSU wins the prerace fashion award for his maroon boxing robe with the hood up. Charles of UW blasts around the curve and has a major lead at 150. Charles still with the lead at the 7th hurdle, but here comes Cassleman. Cassleman continues to close and clears the last hurdle with much more power than Charles, but leans too soon and staggers across the finish line. Charles the winner in 49.51, Cassleman 49.53. Kelley 3rd in 51.07. Mitchum and Ikwaukor, both of Oregon, finish 4th and 5th. Ducks outscore USC 9 to 6 in that event.
Women’s 400 Meter Hurdles (FINAL) ? 4:30 p.m.
Hill of UCLA is a scratch in lane 3. Leach of UCLA is already ahead at the second hurdle and Wallace of ASU moves into a clear 2nd by the third hurdle. Harwood of Oregon is close behind, but Wallace moves strongly off the 7th hurdle. Leach races home in 57:27, Wallace 58.14 and Harwood an easy third in 1:00.05.
Men’s 200 Meters (FINAL) ? 4:37 p.m.
This is a huge event in the team score late in the meet. USC leads by 13.5 over Oregon. Del Rincon of Oregon leads off the curve. Francis of USC jumps to the lead and runs away to a huge win in 20.39. Peterson of ASU second in 20.71, Ducks get third and fourth with Del Rincon in 20.86 and Scherer in 20.93. Kent of Oregon gets 7th in 21.15. Ducks make up 3 points on USC in that event. It appears USC leads by 10.5 points. Wind is +1.7.
Women’s 200 Meters (FINAL) ? 4:45 p.m.
Davis of Stanford jumps to the lead and flies off the Bowerman Curve with 2 meters on Rodriguez of USC. But Rodriguez closes, passes and runs away to win in 22.81. Davis a frustrated 2nd in 23.03, Carter of Cal 3rd in 23.39.
Women’s 5,000 Meters (FINAL) ? 4:52 p.m.
Mile 1
Hastings and Jackson of ASU to the lead with Lambie tucked in behind, just 39 seconds for the first 200. 400 in 79.6. Hastings has picked up the pace and the pack lengthens with Hastings, Jackson, Campbell of UW, Lambie, Trotter of Stanford and Kingma of ASU. 2:38.0 for 800 a 78.5 lap. The group of 6 has six meters on the strung out pack lead by Nelson of Oregon. 1200 meters for the pack of 6, 3:56.2, 78.2 last lap with Jackson now in the lead. Hastings behind her. They are 30 meters behind the chase pack led by two other Sun Devils, Randall and Masinelli. The pace must be fast because the lead group of six is now in line. 1600 meters in 5:12, 76.0.
Mile 2
Hastings to the lead, her and Jackson continue to change leads. The chase pack now includes Rios of ASU. 2000 meters, 5 laps in 6:32.2, 79.9 with Hastings in the front, the pace has slowed and the lead pack of 6 is bunching up. Jackson goes to the lead with 7 laps to go, pressing the pace. 2400 meters, 6 laps in 7:50.2, a 78.3 last lap. Jackson with 3 meters on the lead pack now. No one seems to want to close it up and Campbell is fading out the back. Chase pack had 4 runners, 90 meters back, including Nelson and 3 Sun Devils. 2800, 7 laps, 9:06.9, 76.7. Jackson is now 30 meters clear and pulling away. 3k in 9:44. Both Trotters, Hastings and Kingma are in the pack chasing 3200 meters in 10:23.3. A 76.4 lap, as Jackson lengthens the lead. Lambie did not start it was both Trotters for Stanford in the chase pack.
Mile 3
Jackson 3600 in 11:40, a 76.4. Sun Devils are running 7,8 and 9 as Nelson tries to hold on. Kathleen Trotter and Hastings break away from Amanda Trotter and Kingma with 3 laps to go. 10 laps in 12:56, 76.4 for Jackson. Nelson passes the group of 3 and is now being repassed. Kathleen Trotter breaks away from Hastings and is now solidly in 2nd. Jackson in 14:13.1, a 77.1 with 600 to go. Jackson at the bell with an 80 meter lead in 14:51. Kathleen Trotter is second, followed by Hastings, Amanda Trotter and then Kingma in 5th. 15:30 with 200 to go, a 77.0 last lap. Jackson cruises to the finish in 16:08.58, Katheen Trotter in 2nd in 16:21, Hastings 3rd, Amanda Trotter 4th, Kingma 5th, Campbell 6th, Bennett of ASU up for 7th and Randall finishes 8th for ASU and Nelson gets 9th. 23 points for ASU in this event, and the PAC-10 team title.
Men’s 5,000 Meters (FINAL) ? 5:12 p.m.
Mile 1
Brown of Stanford goes to the early lead and is looking back. 400 meters in 63.7. Knox and Flanders are behind Brown. Brown leads through 800 with a 66.6 second lap. Brown sprints out and now looks over his shoulder at the pack. 2:45 at the 1k mark. Pierce of Stanford of 2nd and Rupp of Oregon is in 3rd. 68.0 for the third lap. The pack has really strung out, the pace is fast. Cheseret now in 4th for Arizona. 1600 meters in 4:24.6 with Brown dropping out.
Mile 2
Pierce with Rupp and Cheseret directly behind him. The lead pack is strung out with Pierce, Rupp, Cheseret, Mutanya of UA and Aguayo of ASU the top 5. 2000 in 5:31.4, 67.1 for the last lap. Araia of Stanford has been dropped along with his teammate Gotcher. 9 runners left in the lead pack. Gomez of Stanford moves into 5th. 6:37.9 at 6 laps, 68.1 last lap for the group of 6. Rupp goes to the lead with 6 laps to go, Cheseret goes with him and so does Mutanya. 7:44.5 for 7 laps, 64.8 last lap. The lead group has 40 meters on the next three. Rupp, Cheseret and Mutanya. Gomez, Ghebray of Cal and Pierce are the next three 30 meters back. Rupp slows on the back straight. 8:52.4 for 3200, 68.0 for that lap.
Mile 3
Mutanya takes the lead approaching 4 laps to go, then Cheseret and Rupp. Ghebray breaks away from Gomez and Pierce and the Arizona runners are breaking away from Rupp. 10:00.0, a 67.5 for 9 laps. The UA runners have 20 meters on Rupp approaching 3 laps to go. 11:06.4 a 66.4 with Mutanya and Cheseret 40 meters up on Rupp. Ghebray is being reeled in by Pierce and Gomez. Aguayo moves into 4th with the 2 Stanford runners behind him. 11 laps in 12:12.5, 66.2 last lap for Mutanya and Cheseret. At the bell 12:46.0 for the leaders from UA. Rupp is 12:55. Cheseret urges on Mutanya as he passes him with 250 to go. 13:18 at 12 laps, a 65.6. Cheseret eases down the home straight to win in 13:47.50. Mutanya gets 2nd in 13:51.32. Rupp 3rd in 14:00.94. Pierce 4th in 14:09.92, Warrenburg of ASU 5th in 14:10.46, Aguayo 6th in 14:12.13, Gomez 7th 14:18.51, and Mix of Stanford the last scorer in 8th 14:23.21. USC still holds the overall team lead with 130, Oregon has 125.5 and UA has 120.
Men’s 4x400 Meter Relay (FINAL) ? 5:32 p.m.
USC out to a lead at the first exchange with Oregon in second, Travis Anderson 47.5. Oregon is running Scherer 2nd. UW is in second behind USC on the second leg, with Scherer coming up strong. Scherer gets the lead off the Bowerman Curve and slows at the handoff in 44.8 Ducks, Huskies and Trojans all together down the back straight on the third leg. Ikwaukor of Oregon holds off a Washington challenge on the inside and they battle around the curve and down to the third exchange, with Washington a slight lead on the outside as Ikwaukor hands to Kent in 47.3 for Oregon. Down the back straight, Oregon on the inside, Washington on the outside, but USC is almost able to pass on the pole. Kent squeezes him back but down the home straight USC powers away to win in 3:05.70, Oregon 2nd in 3:06.74 (Kent 46.8). Washington 3rd in 3:07.08. USC clinches team title with 140 points.
Women’s 4x400 Meters Relay (FINAL) ? 5:45 p.m.
UCLA has scratched, all 8 teams in one section. ASU leads Stanford by 4.5 points in the team race going into this event. Washington is out real well on the outside with Dignam. Stanford comes up to the first exchange in 52.9. Stanford followed by ASU and now Hardeman of ASU passes Stanford at the 200 meter mark. The teams are even now at the second exchange. Davis of Stanford takes the lead down the back straight, Cal is in third. USC’s Rodriguez flies by Cal into 3rd after 200 meters. Davis has a 3 meter lead for Stanford over ASU at the exchange. Harwood moves the Ducks to 5th. 51.1 for Rodriguez, 52.8 for Davis. Stanford’s anchor battles down the back straight and has a 2 meter lead off the final curve over ASU, holding on to win in 3:32.69. ASU second in 3:33.23, and wins the team title. 3rd goes to USC in 3:38.16. Cal gets fourth in 3:38.58 and Oregon finishes 5th in 3:42.21. Team winners are USC men and ASU women.
