Lacrosse Opens Conference Tournament Against Saint Mary's

The No. 4 seeded Ducks open the MPSF conference tournament against the No. 5 seeded Saint Mary’s Gaels, a team they scored a school record 22 goals against earlier this year and also set the program mark for largest margin of victory, winning the match 22-8. Freshman Ilsa van den Berg scored five goals in the match along with nine other Ducks. Sophomore Alison Leiner set the school mark for assists in the effort as well, tallying six in the match.
THE LAST TIME OUT
Reigning Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Player of the Week Laura Cavallo and Liz Reifsnyder each scored four goals as the California Golden Bears defeated the Ducks, 12-4. Redshirt freshman Alison Leiner scored the first goal of the game, but California would break out with 12 straight goals and late goals by Jana Bradley, Jenny Browne, and Erin Gaebe would not be enough to close the gap. The victory earned the Bears the third seed in the conference tournament and dropped the Ducks to the fourth seed.
BACK TO BACK RECORDS
Jen May became the second Duck in as many games to tie the school and Pap? Field records for goals in a single game when she scored six goals against Stony Brook. Alison Leiner first set the marks in the match against Denver on April 7. Leiner also set the school record for points in that game with nine. The previous school record of five goals had been held by Jana Bradley against Denver in 2005 and had been equaled twice this season by freshman Ilsa van den Berg and sophmore Kate Fleming. Leiner bested her previous record of 8 points, when she tallied two goals and six assists against Saint Mary’s earlier this year.
